Sunshine Home Health

Regaining health following an accident, surgery, stroke or a chronic illness is often best accomplished in your own home. Sunshine Home Health brings competent, compassionate health care services right to your door.

Sunshine Home Health thinks that healing and well-being are best achieved when a patient's familiar home lifestyle is maintained during treatment. When people are surrounded by family, friends, neighbors and even pets; their minds and bodies can focus on healing.

While in the comfort of the patient's home; our nurses, therapists, and caregivers provide Spokane County patients with the specialized care and treatment they need. Some of the services that we provide are:  fall prevention; mobility and balance skills; wound care; medication management; IV infusion and tube feedings; cognitive and memory strategies; speaking and swallowing exercises; nutrition and diet education; community service connections; medical social work services.

Our local nurses are also available by phone 24 hours a day to answer questions or concerns. Secure technologies help us streamline our process while in a patient's home and enables us to provide more concentrated time with the patient — not on paperwork.

Sunshine Home Health can also serve as an intermediary between patients and insurance companies to minimize any undue stress.

Specialty Home Health Programs

Firm Footing - Sunshine Home Health's Firm Footing program is focused on safe mobility and fall prevention.  We assess every one of our patients for fall risk upon admission to our agency, and we immediately act on that fall risk if identified.  Our Firm Footing program is an evidence-based treatment program, designed to help decrease a person's fall risk.  It utilizes tests and measures that have been associated with identifying fall risk and appropriate treatment measures.

We use these results to develop a customized treatment program to meet the needs of each client.  We utilize a tree-level exercise program and progress our patients through these as indicated and tolerated, resulting in a unique program for each patient to address their specific deficits.

We also screen for vestibular impairments, and if identified, treatments are provided for this as well.  We have many clinicians that are specially trained in vestibular rehab.  We also screen all patients for sensory changes due to peripheral neuropathy and take these results into consideration when developing the treatment approach

Our very experienced physical and occupational therapy staff who can implement the right assessment and treatment tools directed at improved balance, strength and confidence to maximize function and minimize falls.

LSVT Big™ - Sunshine Home Health is proud to offer the LSVT Big program for Parkinson's disease treatment.  This program uses specific exercises that work on a person's neural plasticity (intensity, complexity, saliency, and use-it-or-lose-it theory.)  For the LSVT Big program uses increased amplitude training of limbs and body movement in people with Parkinson's disease.

LSVT Big is delivered by a certified LSVT Physical or Occupational Therapist.  Treatment is administered in 16 sessions over a single month (four individual 60-minute sessions per week.)  This protocol was developed specifically to address the unique movement impairments for people with Parkinson's disease.  The protocol is both intensive and complex, with many repetitions of core movements that are used in daily living.  This type of practice is necessary to optimize learning and carryover of better movement in everyday life.

We at Sunshine Home Health are happy to help those with Parkinson's disease improve their mobility, activities of daily living and overall quality of life.

When health care and rehabilitation therapy cannot be administered in the home, Sunshine Health & Rehab is the right choice for people recovering from surgery, illness, accidents or strokes.

Sunshine Health & Rehab's skilled nursing and rehabilitation facility specializes in both short and long-term care. We specialize in treatment and therapies for orthopedic injuries; joint replacements; post-stroke care; cardiac care; wound care; and weaknesses caused by illness, accidents, and surgery. All of our programs are tailored to meet each resident’s needs and are focused on helping them achieve independence as quickly as possible.

A medical doctor and registered nurse practitioner are available on-site five days a week. We have a gym that is equipped with a wide range of exercise equipment to help residents with their therapy and fitness needs. Menu's and meals are prepared by our professional chef in partnership with our registered dietitian for optimal nutritional health.  We have a medical social worker and discharge planner that will help patients and families connect with community programs before discharge to help with the transition to home.

Sunshine Health & Rehab's therapy department provides services 7 days per week, which will help our residents get well faster.  They are also one of the last local rehab facilities that still do a home safety visit before discharge.  This helps to ensure that all needed equipment is ordered when the resident discharges back to home and that they are safe in that transition.

Sunshine Health & Rehab offers our patients a residential lifestyle. Our activity staff develops many programs to keep residents social and active. Our activities involve art, music, discussion groups, and community celebrations. We also run specialized programs that focus on restorative nursing and keeping mental sharpness. Families are always welcome to join their loved one for these activities.

As a Christian-influenced health care provider, Sunshine Health & Rehab offers on-site chaplain services to meet the spiritual needs of our residents.  We pride ourselves on delivering the highest standards of care, where dignity and respect are provided in an environment of hope and comfort.

Our treatment plans offer a solid foundation for a healthy life for those dealing with mental illness.

Sunshine Terrace and Behavioral Health is a supportive therapeutic community composed of dedicated professionals who care for adults (18 years old and up) who are experiencing mental health disorders.  Since 1949, we have treated people with mental health problems, and have one of the longest running treatment programs in Spokane County.  Our professional staff has an extensive history assisting clients to overcome life's challenges so they can live a whole and productive life.

At our Spokane Valley campus, we provide housing and residential treatment for both men and women. During their time at Sunshine Terrace, (dependent on a person's needs and program enrolled into), a resident will work with psychiatrists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, mental health professionals, social workers, nurses, mental health technicians, and trained caregivers who are here to help each resident return to a healthy, independent life.

Our staff takes great care to educate residents about their mental illness, treatment plans, and medication management. Our staff works closely with residents throughout their stay to teach daily living and coping skills. This is done through training, counseling, education and community activities.

Facility accommodations and amenities include suites and private rooms, a large activity room, a well-stocked library, a beautiful atrium, and day-rooms for activities and recreation.  All of these areas are geared to offer the freedom and comfort of an at-home lifestyle. All meals are provided.  Transportation is available for medical appointments.

If you or someone you know could benefit from residential behavioral health services, please contact us. We will be happy to help counsel and educate your or your loved one on admission criteria for treatment or other community resources.
